FAIRBURY – KWBE and Ol ‘Red 99.5 have been running radio auctions for over 30 years. It’s your typical auction, but over the phone and over the air.
Trevor Steinmeyer is a radio auction host.
âPeople call in and bid on items against other listeners, and like any auction, the winner gets the item,â Steinmeyer said.
Randy Bauer is the show’s co-host and thanks the sales staff in Southeast Nebraska for making the radio auction possible.
âWe only do the fun stuff,â Bauer said. âThe sales staff have to go out and collect all the merchandise. “
The show runs from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this time, the station receives a large number of calls each time it organizes the program.
âDuring the 5 to 6 hours that we do this, we get thousands of calls from our listening area, from Pawnee County extending all the way to Crete and everywhere,â Steinmeyer said.
All of these callers are looking to get a low price on a quality item.
âEvery once in a while you can grab a lot of stuff,â Steinmeyer said. âYou can get about $ 1,000 worth of seed for about $ 600. It is a very good deal if you are a farmer.
The salon also auctions gift cards and various hardware and household items, even collectibles. When the show started, they didn’t get a lot of calls. However, now with the use of cell phones things are very different.
âWith cell phones, as you can see, the phone rings a lot,â Bauer said. “Especially when there is a good deal to be made.”
The last radio auction of the year will take place next Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Ol ‘Red 99.5 and KWBE, 1450:00 and 94.7:00.
