Dare: NYSC TV, radio stations will help support the fight against fake news
Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for establishing its television and radio stations.
The minister paid a courtesy visit to the television and radio studios at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaking as a guest on NYSC Radio 88.3 FM, Dare described the initiative as a major achievement in the program’s history.
According to him, TV and radio stations are essential to help spread authentic information in an era of unregulated social media and the rise of fake news.
“In an age of unregulated journalism on social media, we should all be worried about fake news. With the danger posed by misinformation and miscommunication, credible media outlets like NYSC television and radio are poised to bridge the gap and be a trusted source of authentic information for young people and society at large. “, did he declare.
“It is gratifying that the visionary behind the creation of the NYSC program, General Yakubu Gowon, has commanded the television and radio station and he only needs to be here to see his vision blossom into what it is in this moment.”
The minister said the stations would broadcast NYSC activities across the country with unique insights into youth development in various sectors of Nigeria’s socio-economic life.
He also urged young people to devote 20 or 30 minutes daily to the radio in order to participate in the interactive sessions.
NYSC television and radio will broadcast on channel 365 on GoTV and 88.3FM on radio respectively.
