A community run FM radio station in Croydon is relaunching as an FM radio station and online.

Created by local resident Clive Campbell, Croydon FM launched in 2018 as an online-only service.

Since its launch, the station has supported community projects, providing employment opportunities, training for young people and supporting local events.

With 44+ members, Croydon FM is fast becoming a fixture in the radio community.

The station actively promotes local youth support and makes a conscious effort to bring young people into the studio to teach them the ropes of radio production and broadcasting – involving them in activities such as Boxpark Croydon, The Ends Festival and many other activities.

This support earned Croydon FM the Business In The Community award at the Mayor of Croydon Civic Awards and was honored by GRM Daily as part of its Give Daily campaign in 2020.

In March 2019, Croydon FM made the decision to apply for an FM Community license and despite the events of 2020, continued to broadcast programming remotely – keeping the community connected by fighting against isolation and loneliness.

In May 2020, Croydon FM received an FM community radio license from Ofcom, it is one of six community radio stations to achieve FM status during this round.

In a recent update, Ofcom said, “This will be the last round of community radio licenses on FM or AM for the foreseeable future. ”

When the awards are announced, Ofcom said: “Croydon FM will serve the culturally and ethnically diverse community of Croydon and surrounding areas; it will provide a platform for local musical talent and participate in community outreach. “

The Croydon Advertiser covers areas including, but not limited to Coulsdon, Purley, Selsdon, Shirley, Thornton Heath and Croydon in the London Borough of Croydon.
